Caroline Kennedy - Duuuuuuude, that is not cool. I live in a semi-desert (Kamloops, BC, Canada) and there are a ton of rattlers here (HUGE rattlers). I'm not sure why you felt you had to kill the snake at all. If you're worried about yourself and your pets, a rattlesnake is not going to chase you down and bite you... you are way too big to eat and it doesn't want to waste it's venom on you or a kid or a dog or cat... all of them are too big to make meals from. Many times we have been hiking with our dogs and happened upon rattlers basking in the sun. Our dogs can walk right up to them and sniff them and all they do is curl up and rattle a bit before hightailing it into the underbrush. I know you probably don't know much about rattle snakes, but it is just so uncool to kill one of God's creatures just because it scares you. Even a mini pug is too big for a rattler to eat. Next time, just keep the dog away from it for a bit and it will mosey on its way.  Jun 11, 2009, 11:20AM
