A spotlight and Dave

I
used to drive a black Volkswagen jetta. I loved the bright blue and red speedometer lights that shined back at me during the night and the strong smell of crayons the seats gave off during summer days. I never knew why it smelt like crayons but all of us Volkswagon lovers all proudly carried the smell with us. The windows now and then would slide down down into my side door and my engine would so efficiently burn the valuable oil it needed to drive me from point A to B. It didn't matter what went wrong, I loved my car anyways. When I think back on my jetta, I think of three things : Pumpkin spice, warm October nights, and The Dave Matthews Band. There is just something so relaxing about sipping on a pumpkin spice latte and listening to Dave Matthews with the windows rolled down. Last Wednesday, I had the chance to see Dave and the gang LIVE. My past clients David and Katie, invited Steve and I to the most amazing seats I have ever sat in for any concert. 10th row! It was loud, bright and exhilarating. I could literally see the expressions on all the band members faces and the beads of sweat that dropped off their foreheads as the temperature settled in the 90's. David apparently has been a HUGE Dave Matthews fan for years. Following the band around from state to state in a van with his buddies, David has attended at least 30 Dave Matthews Band concerts since the band has been touring since 98'. That right there, is a true fan.
As I listened to the loud music and the familiar tunes, I reminisced about my black jetta and the days I sat at Borders book store drinking my seasonal pumpkin spiced latte.
Ill say it again... this is why I love my job. I get to make awesome friends and get to know them on a more personal level. It seems we have more than just Dave in common. We love San Diego, the name Margo and of course photos.
I am also excited to get to work with David and Katie later year in October at a wedding! I am also hoping to hire David and Katie to bring their awesome photo booth to my OWN wedding this October! If any of you are getting married, having a birthday party or simply want to have fun with a photo booth, definitely check them out...
This week, I think its appropriate to spotlight David and Katie's Picture This Photobooths
When I first met david and Katie to talk about their wedding, the photobooth idea was developing. It was so fun to see the personally built booth in action at their wedding. I loved it.

Q: What sets your booth apart from other photo booths?

I'd like to think quality. We built it for our own wedding, so I wanted to use nothing but the best. We use professional Canon cameras and printers to make the quality great. My friend Tom Fink, who does custom woodwork projects (T&F), built the booth with me out of solid wood. Its a pain to move around but the end product looks pretty sweet.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working the photobooth?

The good thing about the booth is that it works for almost any event! We've done weddings, birthdays and holiday parties. My wife and I run each event, so spending extra time with her is always a good thing. Weddings are great because you're interacting with people on one of the best days of their lives. It would be impossible not to enjoy it. And it's really cool to see all of the creative shots that people come up with. All ages, it doesnt matter, every gig we do someone brings something new to the booth!

Q: Do you bring your own props?

Absolutely! We have funny hats, glasses, boas, necklaces. My favorite, though, are these hand held white boards that my wife found in her teachers magazine. We bought a bunch of them, and now people can write a message on the boards and bring them into the booth. It's a fun way to create a comic strip. We worked a wedding a couple of weeks ago where they had the words "I DO" in wood block letters for the ceremony. Somehow someone brought them into the booth for a couple of poses. It turned out really cute!

Q: Whats a funny fact about the both of you that you would like to share?

Small world, but Katie's mom runs a non profit women's clothing store and buisness. A really good friend of mine that I've known since early grade school did an internship for her back when I was in college. I remembered my friend always talking to us about her internship and how much fun she was having. Flash forward about 6 years to when I'm in Katie's mom's office for the first time. There on the wall was my friends name, as "intern of the year!" It's pretty funny how small some circles will run when you've lived here all of your life.
